EPIC & Electoral Roll

For every constituency, there is a list of voters that is called the Electoral Roll. To be able to exercise your vote, your name must be in the Electoral Roll of the area of your residence, according to Article 326 of the Constitution. Further to make the process transparent and for the ease of the citizen Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC). It was first introduced in 1993 during the tenure of the Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan. The Election Commission of India has directed that non standard EPIC/Voter ID Card should be converted to standard 10 digit alphanumeric numbers for making EPIC/Voter ID Card number uniform for all electors. (EPIC) have to produce the Electors Photo Identity Card for their identification at the polling station before casting their votes.
